Tolstoy generates commerce content with AI — product videos, model photos, avatars, and shopping experiences. Synthetic media is powerful, so we hold it to explicit rules: consent first, honest representation always, and brands in control of everything that ships.
Consent and likeness
Custom avatars require proper consent from the person depicted. Impersonating any person or entity, or misrepresenting affiliations, is prohibited. Stock avatars carry additional restrictions — written consent is required before they appear in paid advertising, TV, news, fundraising, political campaigns, or other sensitive content. These rules are contractual, not aspirational: they are part of the Tolstoy avatar use policy every customer agrees to.
Content standards
Avatars and AI-generated content must be used for positive, constructive business purposes. Fraud, phishing and spoofing, adult content, any exploitation of or harm to minors, and obscene, defamatory, or discriminatory content are prohibited across the platform — see the avatar use policy and community guidelines.
Brands stay in control
Content is created inside your workspace, from your products and your brand assets. Nothing reaches your storefront, ads, or email until your team publishes it — AI drafts, you decide.
Enforcement
Policy violations can lead to removal of the violating content and suspension or termination of avatar services and platform access. Reports of misuse go to privacy@gotolstoy.com and every report is reviewed.

Personal data is handled per our privacy policy, including access, correction, and deletion requests. Platform and infrastructure protections — SOC 2 Type II audits, encryption, access control — are described on our security page.

Can someone create an avatar of me without my consent?
No. Custom avatars require proper consent from the person depicted, and impersonating any person or misrepresenting affiliations is prohibited under our avatar use policy. If you believe your likeness is being misused, email privacy@gotolstoy.com.

What happens when the rules are violated?
