Add shoppable video stories to product pages
Tolstoy adds one row of video stories to your product page template, and each product page shows only the videos of the product the shopper is viewing.
What you need
- Videos in your Tolstoy library
- A connected Shopify store
- Videos connected to products, or carrying Shopify tags that your products share
What you get
- One stories widget for your product page template, unpublished until you approve it
- A coverage list: products with matching videos and products with none
- Proposed video-to-product connections for you to accept or change
How it runs
Tolstoy runs this playbook in 4 steps.
-
Check video coverage
The agent lists the products that have videos connected to them or matching their Shopify tags, and the products that have none.
-
Fill the gaps
For videos with no product connection, the agent proposes a product only when the video clearly shows it, and saves each connection after you accept it.
-
Build the stories row
The agent builds a row of circular story thumbnails that opens a player with product cards and add to cart.
-
Preview on a real product
The agent previews the unpublished draft on a product page that has matching videos.
Check the result
- Preview two different products: each page shows only its own videos, never videos of a similar product.
- Tap a story: the player shows the product card and add to cart for the product in the video.
- Hold the coverage list against your best sellers: you know which of them will show the row and which will not.
Know the limits
- Publishing needs your confirmation. Then you add the Tolstoy Builder block to your product page template in the Shopify theme editor and paste the embed code.
- A product with no matching video shows no row, so its page stays as it is.
- It uses videos already in your Tolstoy library. It does not make videos for the products on the coverage list.
When to use this playbook
Use it when you have videos for many products, such as demos, try-on clips or creator reviews, and want each product page to show its own videos without a widget per product. The coverage list is useful on its own: the products with no video are a ready shot list for your next shoot. To fill that list, read how to make product videos for ecommerce at scale.
Get better results
- To show one video across a product family, give the video a Shopify tag that all of those products share.
- Fill the video gaps on your highest-traffic product pages first.
- Use short videos that each answer one purchase question, such as fit, size or how the product works.
The prompt
“Run this playbook” opens Tolstoy with this prompt as a draft. Pick your products, edit anything, then send it.
Add shoppable video stories to my Shopify product pages with the PDP Stories template: a row of circular video thumbnails that opens a player with product cards and add to cart. Each product page should show only the videos connected to that product or matching its Shopify tags. First check which of my products have matching videos and list the ones that do not. For videos that are not connected yet, propose a product only when the video clearly shows it, and wait for me to accept before you save it. Never connect a video to a similar product to fill a gap. If my workspace has more than one store, ask which one. Build an unpublished draft and preview it on a real product that has videos. Do not publish without my approval. Do not invent product claims, prices or reviews.
FAQ
Does a product page with video sell better than one without?
It depends on what the video shows. Video helps most when it answers a question the photos leave open, such as fit, size, texture or how the product works. To test it on your store, compare products that show the row with similar products that do not.
Do I need a separate widget for each product?
No. One widget goes on the product page template. On each page it reads the current product and shows only the videos that match it.
Can one video appear on several product pages?
Yes. A video connected to several products, or carrying a Shopify tag that several products share, appears on each of those product pages.
